Automation Developer

Cape TownFull-timeMid

Build practical applications, integrations and AI-enabled automation across Python, APIs, data and cloud — using Claude to accelerate delivery and turn manual processes into reliable solutions.

The role

We're looking for hands-on Automation Developers to build practical applications, integrations and AI-enabled automation solutions for our clients.

You'll work across Python development, APIs, data and cloud services to automate business processes, connect systems and turn operational requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions. A key part of the role is using Claude and other AI development tools to accelerate delivery, build intelligent workflows and solve complex technical problems.

This is a delivery-focused consulting role, so you'll be comfortable working closely with technical teams and business stakeholders, developing iteratively and taking ownership from requirements through to testing, deployment and support. Your first projects will involve Python, REST APIs, SQL and Microsoft Azure services.

Location: hybrid, based in Cape Town, with a minimum of three days per week in our Woodstock office. Candidates looking to relocate to Cape Town are welcome to apply (relocation costs would need to be covered personally).

What you'll do

  • Design and develop applications, integrations and automated workflows.
  • Build Python-based services, scripts and automation solutions.
  • Develop and consume REST APIs to connect systems and data sources.
  • Work with SQL databases to extract, transform and validate data.
  • Use Microsoft Azure services to build and deploy scalable solutions.
  • Use Claude as part of the development process to design, build, test and improve solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and automate repetitive processes.
  • Write clean, reusable, maintainable code; use Git for source control and release management.
  • Debug across applications, APIs and integrations, and create automated and manual tests.
  • Work within Agile delivery teams and produce clear technical documentation.

We're looking for someone who has

  • Strong development experience using Python.
  • Practical experience building or integrating REST APIs.
  • Good SQL skills and experience working with structured data.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services.
  • Strong scripting and process automation experience.
  • Confidence using Git and modern development workflows.
  • Experience debugging, testing and troubleshooting technical solutions.
  • Experience using Claude or similar AI tools as part of software development.
  • The ability to understand business problems and translate them into working solutions, in an Agile, client-focused environment.

Helpful, but not essential

  • Front-end development experience.
  • Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps or Power Automate).
  • C# or .NET development experience.
  • Experience building AI agents or agentic workflows.
  • Azure Functions, Logic Apps or API Management.
  • Previous consulting or client-facing delivery experience.

Education & experience

Approximately 3–6 years' relevant experience in data quality, data engineering, data testing, analytics engineering or a related field. A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or similar is helpful, but equivalent practical experience is equally welcome.
