Data Engineer
Build the ingestion and data layer in Snowflake behind a greenfield attribution platform — extracting from partner APIs, transforming through dbt and shipping reliable pipelines from day one.
The role
We're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to join a fast-paced, greenfield data and agentic AI transformation for a major sports-betting affiliate business.
You'll work within a small engineering team building the ingestion and data layer in Snowflake that sits behind a new attribution platform — solving a problem existing tracking tools can't: connecting a user's initial click through to bookmaker activity and eventual payout. Your focus will be reliable data pipelines: extracting data from partner APIs, transforming it through dbt, creating consistent data models in Snowflake and automating processes currently managed manually through spreadsheets.
This is a practical delivery role where you'll be coding and shipping from day one, working closely with the engineering team and client stakeholders during an intensive initial 10-week build.
Location: hybrid from our Woodstock office in Cape Town — light-filled, mountain views, good coffee — with 3–4 days a week together in the office.
What you'll be doing
- Build and maintain automated data pipelines into Snowflake.
- Develop transformations and data models using dbt and SQL.
- Use Python for API integrations, ingestion and automation.
- Integrate data from bookmaker and affiliate platforms such as NetRefer, Income Access and RavenTrack.
- Clean, validate and normalise inconsistent partner data.
- Build resilient pipelines with appropriate scheduling, retries, monitoring and error handling.
- Support click, attribution and financial reconciliation data models.
- Help automate spreadsheet-heavy ingestion and reconciliation processes, and support downstream BI and reporting, including Looker.
- Document pipelines, data lineage and key business rules.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and problem-solving.
What we're looking for
You don't need to have worked in sports betting before — more important is that you're a capable Data Engineer who can take a requirement, understand the source, build the pipeline and transformation, test it properly and get it reliably into production. Strong hands-on experience with:
- Snowflake, dbt, SQL and Python.
- ETL/ELT and data pipeline development.
- REST APIs / API-based data ingestion.
- Data modelling, validation and transformation.
- Pipeline orchestration and monitoring.
- Git and modern development practices.
Nice to have
- Financial or reconciliation data; multi-currency datasets.
- Looker or similar BI tooling.
- iGaming, affiliate or sports-betting data; NetRefer, Income Access or RavenTrack.
- Client-facing / consulting experience.
- Claude, Claude Code or other AI-assisted development tools.
